This is an opportunity for four residents of Eastbourne’s Devonshire Ward to research and write about the cultural heritage of the community.
Selected participants will receive training and support from two experienced journalists during a series of workshops and mentoring sessions between mid-April and early June (dates to be confirmed).
By the end of the course, each participant will have researched and written a feature article that tells a story about a building or landmark in or around Seaside Road. These stories will connect people living in the community today and in the past.
The four selected participants will be guided through the use of archives, interviews and photos, to write their articles, which will then be published on the Eastbourne Reporter website. The articles will also be part of an exhibition, heritage trail and interactive digital map curated by Devonshire Collective, a cultural and community organisation based along Eastbourne’s Seaside Road.
The course, which will involve 18 hours of in-person training and mentoring, is part of our ‘Discover, Celebrate and Grow’ project, funded through a grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The weekly workshops will be held at a friendly venue in Seaside and the Eastbourne Central Library.
Workshop 1: Saturday 18 April, 10am - 2pm.
Workshop 2: Saturday 25 April, 10am - 2pm.
Workshop 3: Saturday 9 May, 10am - 2pm.
