Where could a garden take root and who would it be for?

For four days, Devonshire Collective and friends’ Pop-up Potting Shed becomes a place to gather, make, listen and imagine. We will be out and about with our mobile structure, from the beach to the street. We’re inviting the people who live, work, pass through and spend time in Devonshire Ward to help shape the future of its gardens and green spaces.

We want to hear what matters to you, as we embark on finding places, spaces and stories to plot new areas to grow plants, in shared co-created gardens in our future.

The places you remember.
The things you grow.
The spaces you wish existed.
The stories that have been passed down.
The things you miss or lack.

Come and make, draw, gather, share, dream and grow.

Together, we’ll explore what gardens can offer a neighbourhood: food and flowers, shade and shelter, landmarks, spaces for wildlife, somewhere to sit and talk or simply somewhere to pause.

From everything we discover together, we’ll develop 3–5 new garden projects in Devonshire Ward, rooted in local knowledge, shared stories and the needs of the people who live here.

Spend time at the Potting Shed exploring gardens through words, images, materials and conversation. Mix up some compost, take away a growing kit, make a collage, photograph the neighbourhood or add your own ideas to our growing collection of stories and possibilities.

Come for five minutes or stay for the afternoon.

Lamtouclaywork will explore seeds and soil, making seed bombs and thinking about what we might grow together.
Artist Katie Spragg invites you to imagine it through clay, using natural and everyday objects to create textures, forms and miniature garden worlds. Your clay creations will be fired and brought back into the story through our upcoming heritage exhibition, becoming part of a growing record of how Devonshire Ward imagines its future.
