Join Photoworks for Queer Grounds a free programme of LGBTQ+ friendly creative workshops for young people aged 16 – 25 led by photographer Eva Louisa Jonas.

This is a photography club specifically supporting young people who identify as LGBTQ+ or unsure and their friends.

No previous experience or specialist kit is required. We provide everything you need. Workshops are designed to be playful and fun, with a focus on creativity and skills development.

If you would like to chat about any aspect of this in confidence ahead of taking part, please get in touch.

What to expect

Participants will use image-making to investigate collectivity as something living and connecting, visualising how people prop each other up, negotiate roles, navigate tensions, and sustain one another over time. Current examples of queer collectives will be used as material for exploration, with participants creating images that imagine care, collaboration, and shared working, approaching photography as a way of working within collective processes rather than observing them from the outside.

This exploration builds on ideas developed through Where We Meet by Queer Grounds, drawing on research into DIY building practices and queer community organising, and connecting processes of making to explore where and how we can ‘play out’ ideas for image-making together. Alongside developing practical photography and visual storytelling skills, participants will contribute to collaborative processes that create physical and conceptual ‘containers’ for the ideas, stories, and relationships that emerge.
