This Friday 22 May from 4-5 at VOLT gallery. The Thinking Hand: History stretches out in front of me pt. 2
A gathering with Richard Phoenix and Lindsay Corstorphine.
Centering around a 12” vinyl, cut especially for the exhibition and composed by Lindsay that consists of two long form pieces of music. Richard will perform alongside the Lindsay only present in the record using drums and guitar. The pieces were created using a compositional technique where a written melody is mirrored across octaves in varying bar lengths, creating a looping but ever changing melodic space.
“I was trying to find out what this technique was called in the classical domain and read somewhere, sorry dont remember where, the top higher notes are referred to as the shimmer… that’s the really the effect that I think it has when you listen. Easy to imagine sunlight on water or something like that, always changing but always the same.” - Lindsay
