Exhibition Preview: Saturday 26th July 2025, 2.00 - 4.00pm. Everybody Welcome.
Inspired by the book Soul Shapes by Alice Murray Dew-Smith (1890), this exhibition brings together works that explore the colour blue through its material and immaterial qualities, resonating with literary, historical and artistic associations between thread and the cosmos.
A new window installation comprising a large-scale vinyl photographic print bathes the upper floor gallery in a changing blue light. Samanidou is in residence at the gallery in July, presenting a range of experimental, work-in-progress and existing works. Embossing, layering, rubbing, printing, weaving, and lace-making with materials like carbon paper, indigo, cyanotype, mica, and threads, these works will be open-ended and improvisational.
In the lower gallery, Samanidou presents films projected onto different surfaces, interspersed with Greek textiles and an installation of continuous indigo thread wrapping around the gallery’s columns.
Editions made from work in the show will be for sale in the gallery and on our online store, and a small run of riso zines will be available for visitors to take away.
The exhibition’s public programme includes free cyanotype workshops, Collective Books book club and artist in conversation events, details of which to be released in due course.
