Making Sites was a series of artist-led residencies hosted by Devonshire Collective and Towner Eastbourne. Designed and facilitated by Esther Collins (Head of Learning, Towner Eastbourne) and Polly Wright (Curator, Devonshire Collective), the series invited artists to spend time in Eastbourne and respond to its sites, materials, stories and landscape.
The first and only edition of Making Sites ran from 1–4 May 2025 with artists May Hands and Hannah Lees. Over four days, May and Hannah made three scarecrows in response to the sites they shared time on, exploring materiality, landscape, rituals and botany.
Three public events accompanied the residency: an Artist Lunch at Rooted Community Food, an Artist Talk inside DC’s exhibition The Reason for Flowers, and an in-conversation with curator and educator Amanprit Sandhu at Towner Eastbourne.
